Information on a personal injuries case involving a man convicted of trespass at a public house and handling stolen property must be brought before Tullamore District Court, a judge ordered.

Judge Andrew Cody made the order after being told that Nicholas Rizos (34), Frankford, Kilcormac, had suffered a workplace accident.

Mr Rizos admitted trespassing at Dolan's licensed premises, The Square, Clara on November 28 last and handling two stolen sets of car keys, a stolen €10 note and a stolen debit card, knowing them to be stolen.

The man had also been charged with public order offences and failing to give a correct name and address to a garda at Raheen, Clara on the same date but those charges were struck out.

Garda Shane Costello told the court that when Mr Rizos was arrested at Raheen he gave the name Nicholas Madden.

The court heard from Sergeant Brendan Kearns that at 12.50am on November 28 the accused was ejected from Dolan's pub and at 1.05am he was observed shouting at a female in a vehicle at Raheen.

He was arrested and searched and the stolen items were found. They had been taken from the staff area of Dolan's pub.

Sergeant Kearns said Mr Rizos had two previous convictions dating from 2022, one for having no motor insurance and another for an NCT offence.

Defending solicitor Aisling Maloney said Mr Rizos had been out socialising with his partner on the night and had too much too drink.

The stolen items had been recovered and there was no financial loss but nonetheless her client would be offering compensation.

Though he was currently out of work after a serious workplace accident in 2017 he had previously worked in Australia and would like to return there.

Sergeant Kearns said the gardai did not believe he was in control of his actions on the night.
