Offaly GAA Club to celebrate 100 years this Saturday with full day of activities

This Saturday, 17th August, Kilclonfert GAA Club will be a hive of activity as they celebrate 100 years.

The day will start at 10:30 with Offaly taking on Galway in the Adam Mangan Shield Final at this small rural and fiercely proud Daingean parish club. 12pm throw-in will see Kerry V Cavan in the Adam Mangan Cup Final. Some great football is promised from the best U15 teams in the country, so please come along and support them.

Adam Mangan was an excellent footballer and rugby player, who died in a tragic farm accident some years ago. He played minor and U-21 football for Offaly and this annual tournament commemorates his name.

Following on from the Adam Mangan finals, they will have their own Lar Donoghue Memorial Tournament with underage teams from Kilclonfert, Ballycommon (Offaly), Streamstown, Kilbeggan (Westmeath) and Moynalvey (Meath).

This is their first year to run this tournament where teams are mixed with boys and girls born on or before 2018. A team parade will kick off proceedings at 15:45pm with the first of 5 games starting at 16:00pm.

Michael, known far and wide as Lar, Donoghue was a long time club secretary, chairman and officer from the 1980s onto to the 2000s. A tremendous character with an endearing way about him, his sudden death a few years ago was a great shock to his many friends and family.

This is sure to be another fine display from these young children and your support would be greatly appreciated  - Refreshments will be available on the pitch all day.

Saturday evening, on Kilclonfert community centre from 18:00 – 22:00, there will be a BBQ, Live music and refreshments – so please come along and celebrate 100 years of Kilclonfert GAA.
