Offaly gardai make unusual patrol car request directly to Garda Commissioner
In a week when a Garda SUV was wrecked in a crash in Offaly, the powers that be may be looking to bring a replacement into the fleet.
Officers in Tullamore have jokingly suggested something a little leftfield as a new garda vehicle.
Gardaí in the town were outside Eddie Rocket's on O'Connor Square on Wednesday as a vintage Buick was rolled up to celebrate a re-opening event at the burger restaurant.
Posting a picture of a local garda in the vintage car, the Laois Offaly Garda Facebook page joked that they would write to the Garda commissioner and request the change.

"Dear Commissioner, we are wondering if we could arrange for Garda ward to acquire this potential new patrol car for Tullamore while out on hi vis beat.

"Yours, Tullamore Station Party," they signed of the mock letter.
Gardaí would certainly be noticed on the streets in the huge American classic car. We understand the Commissioner is yet to respond.
