A member of Tipperary Roads Policing demonstrates the new tread depth gauges Gardaí will be deploying across the midlands today
Today is Garda Tyre Safety Day and Gardaí will be on the lookout for bad tyres across the midlands today.
"Take a few minutes to check your car this morning. Your tyres are the only point of contact between your car, van or truck and the road and their importance to a car’s safety is essential", Tipperary Roads Policing said this morning.
"Checking your tyres will improve your safety by identifying damages.
"If you don't check them, Gardaí will while they are across the midlands today doing checkpoints targeting tyres. Don't take the chance with safety", the Gardaí said.
Gardaí now have new tread depth gauges that make it much easier to ascertain if a tyre has adequate treads left.
