Three 12-month prison sentences were imposed on a man who is currently in jail and not due for release until 2028.

The sentences are concurrent but must be served at the expiry of the sentence Terry Jenkins is currently serving, Judge Andrew Cody ordered.

Mr Jenkins (51), with an address at Cloncollig, Tullamore pleaded guilty at Tullamore District Court to entering Root 66 on Henry Street in the town as a trespasser and committing theft on June 5 last year.

Mr Jenkins also pleaded guilty to entering the Old Warehouse, Bury Quay, Tullamore and Gorman's shop, Killeigh on February 19 last to commit theft.

His defence counsel, David Nugent, told Judge Cody that after consulting with his client the man was denying charges allegedly committed at K Flowers, Tullamore between February 18 and February 19.

Mr Nugent said Mr Jenkins was doing well in prison, a place where he had spent a lot of time and he was very apologetic for the offences to which he was pleading guilty.

He said there had been an issue with the company his client was keeping and he had become involved with crack cocaine but now hoped to reconnect with his family.

His early formative years had been formed around alcohol and drugs but he now hoped the court would give him some light at the end of the tunnel.

Judge Cody struck out the K Flowers charge but imposed the sentences on the others and also ordered the accused to the Circuit Court in relation to other matters.
