Excellent points finish for Alex Dunne in first Feature Race in FIA Formula 3

Young Offaly motor sport star Alex Dunne scored an excellent points finish in his first Feature Race in FIA Formula 3 in Bahrain this morning.

The Offaly driver started in 12th on the grid but a slow start saw him drop down to 17th on the first lap.

However Ales showed his overtaking skills throughout the 22 lap race in intense heat and worked his way up through the field in his MP Motorsport car.

By lap 11th, he had moved up to 12th place but he was a number of seconds behind the leading group.

He gradually wound in the gap and in the closing stages he was right in the battle for a points finish.

After overtaking Laurens Van Hoepen to get up to 11th, he then got past the ART of Nikola Tsolov to get up to 10th and into the points.

Over the closing laps, Alex had a superb battle with the Campos of Oliver Goethe with the two going wheel to wheel on the last lap but the Offaly driver got the better of the German to finish in ninth place and pick up two World Championship points.

It was Alex's first race weekend in FIA Formula 3 where he also had a 12th place in the Sprint Race on Friday.

Next up in FIA Formula 3 is the Australian Grand Prix at the famous Albert Park track in Melbourne.
