An Offaly GAA club has raised over €50,000 to support a brave teenager from Kinnitty who suffered a life-altering injury in a tractor accident.
Michael Dennedy - who lost his leg in the incident - is currently going through rehabilitation and prosthetic limb fittings in Dublin in the hopes of restoring his mobility and quality of life.
The 'We're Doing it for Dennedy' fundraiser was launched by Kinnitty GAA to help ease the financial burden the Dennedy family are facing, with people contributing from all over Kinnitty and beyond.
A presentation event took place yesterday evening (February 12), during which Kinnitty Club Chairman Willie Boland congratulated the committee on their tremendous work.
According to Boland, the local GAA were "delighted" to be able to accommodate and raise funds for the worthy cause.
Councillor John Leahy, who is chairman of the fundraising committee, thanked Kinnitty GAA for their support and spoke of how well a small area can get together at short notice to help when one is in need.
He also thanked his committee and reminded people that there is still much to do.
Several more fundraising events - including a Golf Classic in Birr Golf Club on May 10 and a Sale of Work later in the year - are due to take place this year.
