Almost all of Ireland covered by Thunderstorm Warning for Sunday as heat wave set to break

Almost all of Ireland is covered by a Thunderstorm Warning for Sunday as the heat wave is set to break with a bang. 

Met Eireann has issued two Thunderstorm Warnings for Sunday with the first set to come into place at 6am. Both warning are in place until midnight.

A Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford comes into effect at 6am and remains in place until midnight. It warns that localised thunderstorms will be slow-moving and will bring heavy downpours giving frequent lightning and surface water-flooding.

A second Status Yellow Thunderstorm warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly and Westmeath comes into effect at noon and also runs until midnight. It also warns that localised thunderstorms will be slow-moving and will bring heavy downpours giving frequent lightning and surface water-flooding.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Thunderstorm Warning for Northern Ireland.

The only counties to escape the Thunderstorm Warnings are Donegal, Sligo and Mayo.

The Met Eireann weather forecast for Sunday states that it will be humid with warm sunny spells. Scattered slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms will bring a risk of localised spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees in light variable winds. 

Monday will see an end to the high temperatures as the heat wave ends with a bang. 

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland, Monday will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain spreading southeastwards across the country. The rain will clear from the west and northwest by late evening, with fresher conditions and scattered showers following. Noticeably cooler with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees in light northwesterly winds.

Temperatures look set to be in the mid teens for the early part of next week.
