Storm Antoni and Storm Betty following a wet summer might not make picnicers confident of settled weather for the Electric Picnic in Laois.

But Met Éireann's extended range forecast for the big Stradbally event is looking promising.

Mainly dry weather, light winds and slightly above-average temperatures are predicted by Met Éireann for the week of the Festival which takes place from September 1 to 3.

Met Éireann says the extended range forecast, which includes the monthly and seasonal forecasts, can at times provide an insight into weather patterns in the months ahead.

The following is the monthly forecast issued on Friday, August 18 - two weeks out from the start of the event.

Week 1 (Monday 21 August to Sunday 27 August)

A high-pressure anomaly is indicated to develop over Ireland during the second to last week of August, bringing higher than usual temperatures for the time of year, mainly dry weather and light winds.

Week 2 (Monday 28 August to Sunday 03 September)

During the last week of August and first week of September the anticipated anticyclonic conditions will weaken although there is still expected to be mainly dry conditions with light winds and temperatures around normal or slightly above.

Week 3 (Monday 04 September to Sunday 10 September)

With no strong signal for the third week of the outlook period climate averages in terms of wind, rain and temperature are expected for the region.

Week 4 (Monday 11 September to Sunday 17 September)

There’s a weak signal for slightly drier weather moving into the area from the west during the last week of the outlook period, with air temperature signaled to be slightly above the climate averages as well as it being a somewhat drier than typical period.

Met Éireann puts the following caveat on its monthly forecast.

"They should not be used for specific planning purposes as they have generally low skill compared with the 10-day forecast. This is because forecasts beyond one week become increasingly uncertain due to the chaotic nature of the atmosphere," it says.

Electric Picnic 2022 was a mixed bag of weather with a dry start but some downpours too.
