Emergency services on the scene.
A pedestrian was hospitalised in Tullamore after a hit and run incident over the weekend.
Gardaí have appealed for the public's assistance after a hit-and-run incident in Mountmellick.
Emergency services were alerted around 6.30pm on Saturday evening, August 19, to the incident on the Irishtown road that links Davitt Road to the N80.
It's understood that at least one person had to be treated at the scene of what Gardai subsequently confirmed, was a hit-and-run incident involving a car and pedestrian.
They said a male, aged in his 30s, was knocked down. He was taken by ambulance to the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for further treatment on what were understood to be minor injuries.
Gardai say a silver coloured car was involved but details of make, model and number plate were not reported.
Gardai ask that witnesses or anyone with information, such as dash cam footage, to contact them in Portlaoise at 057 8674122, Mountmellick at 057 862 4140 or at any garda station.
The incident disrupted traffic for a time in the vicinity of the town's SuperValu supermarket and St Vincent's Hospital.
