Edenderry play Drumcullen in the IHC quarter-final

THE really serious business will start in the Molloy Environmental Systems Intermediate Hurling Championship this weekend with the two quarter-finals and the relegation play off down for decision

Carrig-Riverstown and Coolderry await the quarter-final winners in the semi-finals – they will be seeded in the semi-finals and an open draw will determine which of the quarter-final winners they face.

Quarter-finals

St Rynangh's v Shinrone: Sunday in Carrig 3pm

The second team of two strong senior clubs, both St Rynagh's and Shinrone will fancy their chances of making further progress.

Shinrone were second in group two with St Rynagh's third in group 1. This means that Shinrone are the slightest of favourites but this is a very even looking game and no result would be a surprise.

Verdict – Shinrone.

Drumcullen v Edenderry: Sunday in O'Connor Park 2pm

Drumcullen and Carrig-Riverstown are the two title favouries but a defeat by Coolderry in their last game has sent Drumcullen into the quarter-final route. That extra game won't be any harm for them and they are warm favourites to beat Edenderry. Edenderry have struggled in their first year in the higher grade and come into this on the back of bad beatings by Shinrone and Carrig-Riverstown. They will like playing in O'Connor Park and won the junior title there last year but it will take a huge turnaround to stay in the championship. Drumcullen are capable of bad days and will need to be on their toes.

Verdict – Drumcullen.

Relegation play off

Belmont v Seir Kieran: Sunday in Crinkle 12 noon

Having been beaten by Shamrocks in the final last year, Seir Kieran's presence in the relegation play off is a surprise but it hasn't happened for them this year. A couple of players have went up to senior and a first round defeat to Edenderry set the template for their year. Belmont got a big beating by Carrig-Riverstown in their first game but have been much more competitive since then. Another game that is very hard to call.

Verdict – Belmont.
