Judge tells woman she should stop doing her own detective work
A woman accused of walking into a house without permission sent a video of herself inside the premises to the owner.
Giving evidence Sgt Richard Thornton said that on August 7, 2022, Rachel McDonagh, (22) of 56, Chancery Park Road, Tullamore, had entered the back door of the home of a man at Killeigh, Tullamore. The house was unoccupied at the time. She was looking for her boyfriend. Once inside she sent a video of herself inside the house to the owner, said Sgt Thornton.
Ms McDonagh had no previous convictions.
Solicitor Donal Farrelly said that Rachel McDonagh had been seeking her boyfriend who had been missing and she was concerned as she hadn't seen him in a while. She knew he had been in the company of the owner of the house and that was why she went there to look for him. The back door had been opened, said Mr Farrelly.
Judge Andrew Cody remarked that he would have been more concerned if she found her boyfriend. She needs to stop doing her own detective work, he said
Mr Farrelly said no harm had been done to the property.
Judge Cody said it was still a serious offence and she had no permission to be there.
He fined Ms McDonagh €200 and gave her six months to pay.
