The development will be located at Grove Street and the Crescent in Roscrea
Pland to demolish three derelict buildings in Roscrea town to make way for nine modern new housing units has been welcomed by local elected representatives.
The development, located at the Crescent and Grove Street, is one Roscrea's busiest route on the N62 and approach to Roscrea from the Birr direction.
The works will see the demolition of a terrace of three existing two storey dilapidated buildings and includes the clearance of overgrown vegetation to clear the way for the construction of nine new dwellings.
The units will comprise three new two bedroom, two storey terraced houses on Grove Street and six one bedroom apartments in two separate two storey blocks on the Crescent.
The development will include revised footpaths, underground services, attenuation area, car parking spaces, boundary treatments, bin storage, landscaping, open spaces and all associated site works.
The plans were discussed at the April monthly meeting of Tipperary County Council in Nenagh on Tuesday of this week, where local Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Smith said the development will transform the approach to Roscrea from the north-west on the N62, where motorists have been greeted by unsightly dilapidated buildings for several years as the enter the town centre.
“This local authority has shown great vision and great leadership in purchasing this site and I want to applaud the local authority for publishing that site. It was a very unsightly buuilding and this is exactly the type of site that we need to turn around”, Cllr. Smith told the meeting..
Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council, Joe MacGrath said the development is much needed in Roscrea and thanked the members for their support.
Senior Engineer, Jonathan Cooney told the meeting that submissions relating to storm water drainage has been investigathed by Irish Water.
A situation where storm and waste water backs up in the underground network of drainage pipes after heavy rainfall will be remedied by a plan for Roscrea which includes this area of the town, Mr. Cooney said.
