Man in court after jogger bitten by dog in the Midlands

A jogger needed antibiotics after being bitten by a dog in Laois, a sitting of Portlaoise District Court was told.

Through his solicitor, Francis Tuohy, 21, of Dysart Beg, Mountrath admitted having uncontrolled dogs at Dysart Beg on January 4, 2022.

Sergeant JJ Kirby said the jogger was out running at Dysart Beg, Mountrath when a number of dogs approached and one bit him on the back of the leg.

“The injured party had to visit the GP and take antibiotics,” Sgt Kirby explained.

The man was bitten on the right thigh, he added. He said the defendant had three previous convictions but none for animal related matters.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client hadn’t shied away from the incident. He had apologised and said he would pay for the damage.

She said all of the animals were licensed. “All of the dogs are gone now save a pup of 21 months old,” she told the court.

Ms  Fitzpatrick said her client was unemployed and needed time to make good.

Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the case for €500 to be brought to court on May 11.
