Parish in Offaly could be the smallest area in the country with two TDs
A parish in Offaly could well be the smallest area in the country with two TDs elected to the Dail in this General Election.
While the highly populated area of North Offaly remains without a TD this century, Carol Nolan and John Clendennen were both elected to represent Offaly in the General Election and both hail from Kinnitty parish in the foothills of the Slieve Blooms.
Independent Carol Nolan was elected on the fifth count while Fine Gael's John Clendennen was officially elected after the final count without reaching the quota
According to official figures, just 879 people were registered to vote at the two polling stations at Kinnitty Community Centre.
It is very unusual for two TDs to come from such a small area and with at least one of them very likely to be in Government, potholes and other such issues should be a thing of the past in the area.
Tony McCormack was the third TD elected giving Tullamore its first TD since Pat Gallagher was elected in 1992.
