Good news story for homes and businesses near Offaly village

Fine Gael General election candidate welcomes investment from National Broadband Ireland

MOUNTBOLUS

There is some good news for the Mountbolus area this week

Almost 1,400 homes in Mountbolus area can now avail of a high-speed fibre broadband connection

CLLR John Clendennen, Fine Gael candidate in the General Election in the new three-seater Offaly constituency, has welcomed the news from National Broadband Ireland (NBI) that almost 1,400 homes in the Mountbolus deployment area can now avail of a high-speed fibre broadband connection.

Cllr Clendennen commented “This is good news for households, businesses, farms, schools and other enterprises in the Mountbolus, Derrinboy, Kilcormac and Killoughey areas. Good, high-speed broadband is essential for modern day living and it is great to see the investment in this area paying off for communities in Offaly.

“NBI have confirmed that over 4,500 homes, businesses and farms in Offaly can now avail of a high-speed fibre connection. In addition, network build is continuing for over 2,000 premises in or near Tullamore, 1,900 premises in or near Birr and 1,500 premises in or near Banagher”

Cllr Clendennen added “Fine Gael, in government, were the sole drivers of the National Broadband Plan and, as part of the plan, Offaly is receiving €48m to bring the service to the desired level. This will help existing homes and businesses to avail of technology that is essential for modern day transactions and will also encourage more people to look at these areas for business generation or to re-locate to live in”.

“This is a good news story for these communities and, with the plans NBI have in place, it is just a matter of time before many other communities in Offaly will have similar good news announcements,” Cllr Clendennen concluded.
