Cllr JP O’Meara, Cathaoirleach, said he believes more speed ramps are needed in many spots around the county.

GARDAÍ representatives in a meeting with County Councillors in the Nenagh Civic Offices recently told the Councillors that they would like to see more speed ramps in Tipperary.

Cllr JP O'Meara, Cathaoirleach of Nenagh MD, told the October meeting of Nenagh MD that he was glad to hear this as he believes more speed ramps are needed in many spots around the county.

Liam Brett, Director of Services, pointed out that there are three elements to speed ramps, namely, Enforcement (looked after by the Gardaí); Engineering (looked after by the local authority); and Education.

Cllr JP O'Meara pointed out that enforcement is not always where it should be at. “It's good in places like Ardcroney, where people are very aware they may be caught speeding and therefore slow down but there are many places where the level of enforcement needed is just not there.”

Cllr Michael O'Meara commented that he liked the recent proposal to put more raised table ramps outside schools. Mr Brett said raised table ramps are quite costly.

Cllr John Carroll remarked that there is a “certain cohort of people who just won't slow down under any circumstances. I would like to see more technology being used to increase our enforcement.”
