Groups in Daingean, Walsh Island, Bracknagh and Mountlucas benefit from BnM Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gain Scheme

BnM has announced the latest round of funding under its Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gain Scheme, with 24 local organisations receiving a combined €104,000 in 2026.

The latest awards form part of BnM’s wider investment in communities across North Offaly, which exceeded €465,000 in 2025 through community funding associated with BnM renewable energy projects in the region, including community benefit funding, educational scholarships and near neighbor supports.

Since the Mountlucas Community Gain Scheme was established in 2014 over €1 million has been invested in local community projects. Supported initiatives include youth facilities, community hall upgrades, biodiversity and heritage initiatives, renewable energy installations, and other local sustainability projects. Together, these projects reflect the work of local volunteers and community organisations to deliver lasting benefits for their communities.

Among the projects receiving support through the 2026 Fund are:

Daingean Pickleball Club – to upgrade pickleball equipment, supporting recreation and social inclusion.

Mountlucas Community Development – to enhance the Mountlucas area, with a focus on environmental sustainability.

Walsh Island Development Group – for a reproduction telephone box to house a defibrillator, supporting community safety.

Bracknagh GAA – towards an energy-efficient scoreboard upgrade using a hybrid power system, including solar panels.

Daingean National School – to develop an outdoor regulation space for ASD and mainstream pupils, supporting education and social inclusion.

Brendan Connolly, BnM Head of Head of Asset Management and Trading said: “Since the Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gain Scheme was established in 2014, over €1 million has been distributed to projects in communities neighbouring Mountlucas Wind Farm, supporting a wide range of local initiatives including community facilities, sustainability projects, biodiversity programmes and youth services.

“Community investment remains a central part of BnM’s approach to renewable energy development. With more than €465,000 invested in communities across North Offaly communities through our renewable energy projects. We are proud to continue working alongside local organisations to deliver projects that strengthen communities, support education and sustainability, and create lasting value for the region.”

The Fund is administered by BnM, and is overseen by a Fund Committee comprising local volunteer representatives.
