Info: A series of art talks facilitated by Patricia Hurl and Therry Rudin. Patricia and Therry will present two sessions on their selected Master works - investigating the background, technique and the narrative concept, behind a familiar or clichéd painting and discuss contemporary approaches to what are universal themes to present time. The participants then have an opportunity to select and present within the group their favourite paintings which has associations with their past.

Seoda - Treasure Under Foot
Birr Theatre & Arts Centre
Info: Local photographer & artist Tina Claffey showcases the splendour of Offaly’s rural landscape specifically in the beautiful preserved bogland at Killaun and the surrounding areas of the Slieve Blooms. Aptly captioned ‘Seoda’, the gaelic word for ‘treasure’, the exhibition reveals the natural and unique treasures of this environment, its wild flowers, mosses, gorse and myriads of wildlife that have adapted to this environment through a kaleidoscope of colour, light and new life. The exhibition was officially opened by Dr John Feehan and will be on show until Friday 16th August.

Info: Peter Strauven, organist and musicologist, studied organ with Prof. Joris Verdin at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Besides his activities as recitalist, he is in demand as orchestral player (organ & harmonium) and as accompanist for choral works.

Feet First - Irish Chamber Orchestra

Info: Katherine Hunka directs the ICO’s Feet First Summer Tour which offers a kaleidoscopic range of music combining old with new sounds.
A visually stunning dance and performance - This is dancer Colin Dunne and the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s latest commission (by Kinsale-born composer, Linda Buckley). Dunne is internationally renowned for his performances and choreography in Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground.

Info: Facilitated by award winning multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter Brendan Keeley. This 2-week course will give intensive training in writing and performing your own and other well-known songs.
It will also provide training in various aspects of the music business including copyright, publishing, the recording process, voice training and instrument tuition. Anyone interested in participating should have at least a basic knowledge of an instrument (guitar, drums, bass, voice). As places are limited, it is essential that new participants attend a workshop on Friday 5 July, 5pm at which time places on the course will be allocated.
