The first production Citroen with a Hybrid4 full-hybrid diesel engine was launched in Ireland with the unveiling of the dashing DS5.
The audaciously designed DS5, as Citroen bodly suggest, comes with a host of smart new features, including a striking aviation inspired cockpit roof, with a pilot style cabin like no other car in the market place.
Prices range from 32,500 euro to 44,450 euro for the range topping DStyle Hybrid4 version.
The distinctive DS line is the ultimate new flagship model for Citroën, and the DS5 completes the current DS line.
The DS5 was designed to reconcile fun at the wheel with distinctive style, luxury, comfort and exquisite aesthetics, according to Citroen. It is aimed squarely at business user-chooser customers and retail buyers.
The DS5 is lavished with an alternation of gloss blacks and eye-catching chrome-finished details, such as the slender chrome ‘sabres’ that run from the tips of the headlamps to the front windows.
Reduces C02 emissions
The DS5 is available with a choice of three Euro V engines - e-HDi 110, HDi 160 and the new 200bhp diesel electric Hybrid4.
The e-HDi 110 Airdream features new-generation Stop and Start micro-hybrid technology that reduces CO2 emissions by up to 15% qualifying for xax Band A. All powerplants are mated to manual, automatic or EGS 6-speed gearboxes.
There are eight body colours to choose from and six stylish alloy wheel designs from 16 to 19 inches in diameter.
Without doubt, the design of the cabin is a knock-out. Inspired by the world of aviation, the cabin’s standout feature is the sweeping cockpit roof, which features pilot-style overhead switchgear.
Lots of glass
The large glass roof, divided into three areas, features individual electrically operated sunblinds which allow the occupants to control the amount of light entering the cabin.
The driving position is that of a coupé with the finesse of a Gran Turismo. Highlights include a wraparound dashboard and wide central console, both ergonomically positioned.
The retractable colour head-up display, standard on the DSport level, projects essential driving information directly into the driver’s line of vision, whilst the stylish analogue clock adds a final touch of sophistication to DS5’s interior.
At 4.53m long, 1.85m wide and 1.51m high, the five-door layout offers five full-size premium seats and a generous boot volume of up to 465-litres VDA.
Among the many features available on the range are keyless Access and Start which uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFI) technology to allow drivers to unlock and start/stop the car whilst keeping the electronic key separate; a colour head-up display which projects essential driving information (speed, speed limiter and cruise control settings and navigation settings) in the driver’s direct line of sight (on Hybrid4 models the display changes from white to blue during ZEV mode); a reversing camera that sends a colour image of the car’s rear view to the navigation display screen; driver’s seat with electric lumbar adjustment and massage function; dual-zone automatic air conditioning with three air flow levels (soft, medium, intense); an advanced programmable speed limiter and cruise control system.
A new Lane Departure Warning System, which uses an integrated camera to recognise the lines on the road and warns drivers of involuntary lane departure, is also available as are smart beams that process images from the built in camera to trigger automatic activation and de-activation of the high beam lamps.
Aaudio and telematics equipment includes USB and Bluetooth® connectivity. Citroën’s latest-generation in-car eMyWay navigation comes as standard on the mid-grade DStyle models.
The integrated system features a high-resolution 7-inch colour widescreen, internal memory for map data, and Bluetooth® hands-free and audio streaming for listening to music files stored on mobile phones.
The state of the art Hybrid4 technology delivers outstanding performance and low CO2 emissions from just 99g/km. Hybrid4 offers financial benefits to both retail and business customers in addition to the impressive fuel economy.
Hybrid4 combines several technologies including a refined 2.0HDi 160 diesel engine delivering 163bhp; a permanent-magnet synchronous 37bhp electric motor fitted on the rear axle; a Power Train Management Unit, automatically managing the operating modes of the diesel engine and electric motor to achieve the best possible fuel economy; a Stop and Start system with a second-generation reversible alternator and an automated manual 6-speed gearbox with optimised shifts.
Drivers can select from four different operating modes – auto, Zev, Sport and 4WD.
