Tribute to Offaly man who was tireless advocate for rural communities

The late Michael Fox was an expert judge of cattle at agricultural shows

Former Justice Minister Charles Flanagan has expressed his sorrow at the recent passing of the late Michael Fox.

Mr Fox was a Fine Gel councillor for many years and a leading member of the farming community renowned across Ireland as a cattle judge at agricultural shows.

He was laid to rest in Ballycommon following the celebration of Solemn Requiem Mass on Friday afternoon last.

In a statement Deputy Flanagan said: “Michael was a tireless advocate for rural communities and farming over a long number of years.

“As a Fine Gael public representative his dedication and commitment for an on behalf of the people of Edenderry, Tullamore, Daingean and North Offaly was unparalleled. He was honoured to be first citizen of Offaly while being an effective and diligent chairman of Offaly County Council.

“Michael’s first love was farming, and he was committed to ensuring a positive future for the agricultural sector under the various changes and developments in the Common Agricultural Policy.

“I offer my condolences and sympathy to his partner Nuala, children Mairead, Ian, Roisin, Michelle and Eamon at this sad time.”
