Edenderry GAA has led tributes today after the passing of former player and much-loved supporter Joe Abbott.

The club said: "Edenderry GAA would like to extend our sincere condolences to Karen, Stephen,Mark, Jenny and the extended Abbott family on the sad passing of Joe. Joe was a very talented sportsman, he excelled at badminton where he represented his country, he was also a excellent golfer and soccer player.

"He played at all levels for the Reds winning two Championship medals in minor football in 1968 and Junior B football in 1976.

"He was a great supporter of the club and took great pride in seeing his two sons lining out in the Red jersey. Joe never missed a match and was awarded the Supporter of the Year Award in 2014. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis," a statement concluded.

An RIP.ie death notice reads: "Joe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his sister Valerie. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Karin, children; Stephen and his wife Sharon, Mark and his partner Lauren and Jenny and her partner Jamie, brother Brendan, sisters Dolores and Therese, grandchildren Ciarán, Hailey and Hannah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and his many good friends in his personal, sporting and professional life."

Funeral Details

Reposing at his home this Saturday from 4pm to 7.30pm with Rosary at 7.30pm. Funeral Mass on Sunday at 1pm in St. Mary's Church, Edenderry followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. You can also take part in Joe's Funeral Mass via the webstream link here.
