Go ahead for Phase 2 of Offaly town's inner relief road

Confirmation that the process for Phase 2 of the Edenderry Inner Relief project can begin has been welcomed by Green Party Minister Pippa Hackett and Cllr Mark Hackett.

Phase 2 will link Fr. McWey Street, at the rear of the Dunnes Shopping Centre, to Eden Business Campus providing a route onwards to Rhode via the R441.

Phase 1, opened by Minister Hackett in July 2022, runs from Clonmullen linking across to the St. Conleth’s Road (R401) via Clonmeen Rise and enables traffic coming from the Dublin Road (R402) to access the north side of Edenderry Town while avoiding JKL Street / Main Street.

Cllr Mark Hackett said: “The inner relief road is a logical and necessary piece of road infrastructure which, once complete, will improve connections between all parts of the town and decrease congestion in the town centre. It also allows for safe walking and cycling, something which promotes health and reduces our reliance on cars for short journeys.”

Minister Pippa Hackett added: “I believe that Phase 1 of this road has been a great help in reducing congestion and I thank my colleague Minister Eamon Ryan and the Department of Transport for their continued support of this project. The confirmation of funding for Phase 2 will allow it proceed to tender stage, and I look forward to its completion as soon as possible.”
