Tullamore College students impress at Young Environmentalist semi-finals
Tullamore College students showcased their innovation and commitment to sustainability at the Young Environmentalist Semi-Final held at Airfield Estate, Dundrum.
Two outstanding projects, 'Grass Sheets' and 'Rejuvenate Design House', were presented to the judges, with the teams eagerly awaiting news on whether they will progress to the national final in May.
Grass Sheets explores whether grass can be a viable alternative to traditional wood-based paper.
The team tackled the environmental impact of paper production and grass waste by developing grass-based paper and transforming it into practical products, including bags, envelopes, artsy creations, and even a suit jacket.
To promote their project, they engaged with younger students through presentations and spread awareness via social media.
Rejuvenate Design House is a female-owned sustainable business dedicated to combating fashion industry waste.
The team repurposes discarded garments to create stylish tote bags and scrunchies, giving new life to clothing that would otherwise contribute to overconsumption.
Their mission is to encourage people to choose sustainable fashion when given the right options.
A huge congratulations to both teams for their hard work and creativity. Special thanks to their teachers, Mr. Feighery and Ms. Bradley, for their guidance and support. Best of luck to the students as they await the final results.
