New look Offaly Yearbook hits the shelves across the county this week
The Offaly Yearbook 2024 – produced by the teams at the Midland Tribune, Tullamore Tribune and OffalyLive.ie – is in the shops now.
As we enter the dying days of 2024, we look back on the year that was as well as exploring the different faces of the Faithful County in this special Offaly Yearbook.
The Yearbook will hopefully delight and inform readers over the festive season and into the New Year.
For many one of the highlights of 2024 was Offaly's spectacular win in the All-Ireland U20 Hurling Championship earlier in the year which completed a remarkable record for the county.
They joined Cork and Galway as the only counties to win the full clean sweep of All-Ireland Senior, U21/20 and Minor Hurling and Football Championships. Offaly also have junior hurling but not junior football.
This Yearbook looks back on those halycon sporting days while we also feature interviews with local historian and retired railway signalman, Charlie Finlay from Tullamore.
The wise words of an Offaly man who inspired a Ministerial address in Seanad Eireann are also recalled while we look at the ancient craft of thatching in Geashill.
The courageous story of an Offaly cancer survivor is recounted while the achievements of Offalians on a number of fronts are also featured.
We also look back on the year pictorially with pages of photographs from events that took place all around the county in 2024, as well as dipping into our archives with photographs from the past.
The Yearbook's quizzes, both news and sport, will certainly entertain and puzzle readers over the Christmas period.
The Yearbook also features a host of festive related articles from quirky stories to cookery tips.
We hope that you enjoy reading it and reflecting upon the issues and memories it contains.
