Revnue seizes €1 million worth of smuggled cigarettes at Dublin Port
Revenue officers have seized two million smuggled cigarettes, concealed in a 20-foot shipping container that originated in Dubai, at Dublin Port today.
The smuggled cigarettes, branded “Richman”, were detected when the consignment, addressed to Dundalk and said to be of ‘household goods’, was selected for examination following routine profiling.
The contraband cigarettes have an estimated retail value of more than €1 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €890,000.
Revenue continues to target the illicit tobacco trade, with a view to disrupting the supply chain, seizing the illicit product, and prosecuting those responsible.
If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illicit cigarettes or tobacco they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
