Aldi has applied for permission for a store in Moate
ALDI Ireland has submitted a planning application to Westmeath County Council for a new €6.8M store located in Moate.
ALDI is aiming to open the store in autumn 2025, creating up to 30 permanent jobs, with up to 50 jobs will be supported during the construction period.
Once open, the 1315sqm store will feature ALDI’s award-winning Project Fresh layout. There will be 117 car parking spaces available for customers and 13 bike parking spaces. ALDI will also be investing in the future of Moate through the provision of four electric vehicle charging points, while the store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature 245 solar panels on the roof.
ALDI partners with innovative food and drink producers in Westmeath including Athlone Confectionary Ltd and Quality Irish Food Ltd and is committed to growing its Irish supply base further and increasing the number of Irish products available in its stores. ALDI spent €1.1B with its Irish suppliers in 2022 and is currently working with over 330 Irish food and drink producers.
To date, ALDI’s Westmeath stores have donated over 50,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, saving the charities nearly €63,500. Each store is also part of ALDI’s Community Grants network, with Westmeath SPCA and KS Food Appeal some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
Commenting Donald Mackay, Managing Director of Operations, ALDI Ireland said: “We are delighted to submit our plans for a store in Moate and to commit to further investment in Co. Westmeath. At a time when everyone is dealing with rising costs, the ability to offer our customers the best value at locations most convenient to them matters more than ever.”
