Live shows to take centre stage at Offaly's Hullabaloo festival


Hullabaloo! Offaly’s Children’s Arts Festival from Wed 31 October to Sat 3 November is a perfect solution to any upcoming mid-term break anxieties. Hullabaloo! has something for all ages between 3-12yrs, with opportunities for children to get creative and try something new, as well as enjoy live shows with all the family.

Taking Flight Theatre present ‘You’re Got Dragons’ a delightful take on Kathryn Cave’s book of the same name. A highly visual and sensitive production with live and original music, it is a humorous and touching exploration of one child’s journey to come to terms with her dragons. This intergenerational show, featuring Axelina Heagney previously with Offaly Youth Theatre has creative captioning, interwoven Irish Sign Language, audio description and is supported by Arts and Disability Ireland. Suitable for children 4yrs+. A unique and FREE ‘Dragon Taming Workshop’ takes place directly after the performance and provides simple techniques for children and families to build resilience in mental health. ‘One Man Shoe with Jango Starr’ has been described as a hilariously funny and well- rounded family show with magic tricks, puppetry, juggling and slapstick comedy. The star of the show, Jango Starr, a bumbling theatre caretaker takes us on a comical journey as he is thrust into the limelight. Suitable for ages 5yrs+. Punch Lion present ‘What’s the Story Comedy Improv - Stories for Kids’ with Danny & Paul who love making up stories - silly stories, scary stories and anything-out-of-your-head stories! These two comics bring you on a nonsense, fun, gobbledygook journey using your story suggestions and their comedy improv skills. Suitable for ages 6yrs+. Clara Family Resource Centre, Fri 2 Nov, 11.30am-12.15pm : Edenderry Town Hall, Fri 2 Nov, 5-5.45pm

Hullabaloo! Festival Film is ‘Beauty & The Beast’ where a selfish prince is cursed to become a monster for the rest of his life unless he learns to fall in love with a beautiful young woman, Belle, the only human to visit his castle. This classic film is brought to life on the big screen along with our favourite characters Lumière, Cogsworth, Chip and Mrs Potts! Birr Theatre & Arts Centre, Fri 2 Nov, 7-9pm.

‘A Winter Wish’ by Ceol Connected is an immersive and multisensory performance about the mysteries of Whistleberry Forest when a little robin comes to visit and grants the creatures of the forest their very own wish. This mesmerizing theatre and music performance with traditional musicians Thomas Johnston and Stephen Markham and visual artist, Orla Kelly has been specially created to engage children of all abilities.
