Kneecap announced as finale for exciting Moonlit Movies series in Offaly

Kneecap has been announced as the finale for the Moonlit Movies series in Offaly.

THE award-winning Kneecap has been announced as the finale for the Moonlit Movies series in Offaly.

In August and September, film lovers have the chance to watch a mini season of classic Irish films on the big screen under the open sky (weather permitting) at some of the county’s most unique venues.

Screenings in August include; Handsome Devil in association with Offaly Local Development Company in support of Offaly Pride at Kinnitty Castle on Saturday August 24th, a double header at Birr Castle with The Commitments on Friday August 30th and Sing Street on Saturday August 31st and finishing with Kneecap on Saturday September 7th at the Courthouse Yard in Birr.

Kneecap is one of the most-talked about Irish films of the year. The fascinating Irish-language biopic sees the hip-hop trio, Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Próvaí, playing themselves with Academy Award Nominee Michael Fassbender in tow laying down a global rallying cry for the defence of native cultures. Kneecap won the Audience Prize: NEXT at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival last year after being the first-ever Irish language film to screen at the American film festival.

Gary Hoctor, co-ordinator of Moonlit Movies said: “We are so excited to give film lovers in Offaly a unique opportunity to see one of the most exciting Irish films in recent years as part of Moonlit Movies. We couldn’t think of a better finale to our innovative series of outdoor screenings than Kneecap.

The aim of Moonlit Movies is to reignite the love for classic Irish films and also to give people the chance to see these great films on the big screen. Maybe you’re young enough never to have seen some of these films the first time around, so why not come along and discover these films with us? Outdoor film screenings on this scale are rare in the county, so Moonlit Movies is definitely not to be missed.”

Along with showcasing the best of cult Irish cinema, the Moonlit Movies experience also includes food by local vendors at the different screenings and is included in the ticket price.

Visit offlinefilmfestival.com for more info and to book your tickets. Pre-booking is strongly advised.

Moonlit Movies is thanks to funding from the Screen Ireland Audience Development Fund.
