Woman who saved mother's life after cardiac arrest is surprised on RTE Late Late
One Carlow woman in the audience at the RTE Late Late Show on Friday night got a big surprise when host Patrick Kielty spoke to her live on the show.
Rathvilly woman Aisling Maher was in the audience with her husband Jimmy when Patrick approached with the microphone to asked about an incredible moment in her life.
Aisling told Kielty and viewers at home how she, her father and husband Jimmy reacted when her mother had a cardiac arrest in front on them.
"It was a typical Sunday evening, sitting there yapping to her, next thing she went so we rang an ambulance straight away," she explained.
The 999 call handler told her to get her mother on the floor and get help so Aisling's father went to get Jimmy.
"Jimmy started my mam's CPR and mouth to mouth. I ran down to get the local defibrillator from the GAA club and brought it down, so Jimmy got to shock my mam then as well," she joked.
"She made a full recovery and then we started our local first responders group," Aisling explained.
Rahtvilly First Responders is now up and running and they can respond to people in difficulty within minutes and a 7km radius.
Jimmy went on to become an ENT in the Army while Aisling also went on to join the ambulance service during Covid. The couple have also trained over 100 people in their area how to provide CPR.
Patrick Kielty then surprised Aisling with a prize worth over €1,000 from Peter Mark, including hair straighteners and products.
Rathvilly First Responders posted the clip of the family on the show to Facebook.
