The musical focusing on the life of Michael Collins opens this Sunday night

A musical drama recounting the life of one of the major political and revolutionary figures in 20th century Irish history opens this weekend.

“Michael Collins – A Musical Drama”, staged by Tullamore Musical Society, opens on this Sunday night, April 30 in Esker Arts Centre, Tullamore at 8pm.

The show will run until Friday, May 5.

The musical vividly brings to life the events of the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War.

The production is an intimate human story focusing on the interwoven plight of four extraordinary characters: Michael Collins, his adversary Eamon de Valera, his close friend and colleague Harry Boland and the object of his affections, Kitty Kiernan.

“Tullamore Musical Society in the past has worked hard to bring the best in musical theatre to the local stage and this production is no exception,” said Colin Hughes, chairperson of the society.

He added; “It's a very big and exciting year for the society as we take to the stage in the brand new Esker Arts Centre where we hope to be for many years to come.”
