Moving tribute paid to Offaly man by favourite Premiership soccer club

Late Tullamore man gave great service to soccer and golf
AN emotional tribute was paid to a late Offaly man at a Premiership game in England last weekend.
A near lifelong Everton supporter, Willie Egan, Spollanstown, Tullamore had his name and picture displayed on a big screen at their 1-0 home win over Ipswich Town at their new home ground at Hill Dickinson Stadium on the Liverpool waterfront on Saturday – Everton moved there from their cherished home at Goodison Park on 2025.
Giving the death of Willie's death on September 9, the message said: “We remember Willie Egan from Tullamore, Offaly, Ireland who sadly passed away recently. He was a True Blue fan since 1966. Sadly missed.”
There was a similar message and picture in the match day programme at the game which was attended by Tullamore man, Jim Quinn who organised the messages.
In his mid 70s, Willie Egan was a famous local character. He was a great soccer worker in his younger years, serving Tullamore AFC as manager and secretary in the 1980s-1990s. He was also a passionate golfer, a long time member of Tullamore Golf Club, where he served as mens' secretary.
He got great enjoyment from watching Everton over a few decades, though he never got to see them in person in Goodison Park.
