Kellaghan will be back for Rhode semi-final

THREE Offaly players played leading roles as Sligo captured the New York Senior Football Championship with a final win over Cavan in the Bronx's Gaelic Park on Sunday.

Edenderry's Adam Mahon and Cian Farrell and Rhode's Aaron Kellaghan all started as Sligo got away for a convincing win, 4-16 to 1-13.

Farrell and Mahon have been playing with Sligo sfor most of the season while Kellaghan returned home to play for Rhode in the Offaly Senior Football Championship but went back out specially at the weekend – returning to play the game doesn't affect his legality in Offaly.

The three Offaly men all played very well with Mahon in defence and Farrell and Kellaghan in attack. Farrell gave another man of the match display, kicking some audacious points as he continued his cracking form.

Kellaghan will be back in the Rhode colours for their Senior Football Championship semi-final against Tullamore while there is speculation that Farrell will return to play for Edenderry intermediate footballers. He didn't play in the Senior Football Championship for Edenderry this year and is eligible to play in intermediate as they didn't name him on their list of fifteen players only allowed to play in the top grade.

If Farrell returns, his presence could change things in the Intermediate Football Championship where Edenderry were not among the leading contenders but qualified for the semi-final with an extra time win over Walsh Island in the quarter-final on Friday. Edenderry play Raheen in the semi-final in Daingean on Sunday, September 27.
