Retired architect Fergal MacCabe captures Original Drawing category in Irish Georgian Society's Architectural Conservation & Original Drawing Awards
COUNCILLORS on Tullamore Municipal District council have congratulated a native of the town who has won a major national architectural award.
Retired architect Fergal MacCabe captured the Original Drawing class in the Irish Georgian Society's Architectural Conservation & Original Drawing Awards.
The tributes were led by the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Shane Murray and endorsed by other members and officials at the September meeting of the body on Thursday afternoon.
Last MONTH the winners of the awards were announced at a wine reception in the Irish Georgian Society's Knight of Glin room in their headquarters in Dublin.
Fergal – a prolific author and water colourist - took top prize in the Original Drawing category for his depiction of O’Connor Square in Tullamore.
Fergal previously won the award in 2010 with a drawing of Dublin Castle and is the only person who has captured the accolade twice.
Consarc Design Group took the top prize for best overall conservation project for their work at Glenstal Abbey, Co. Limerick, while there were also a number of commended and highly commended certificates awarded during the evening.
An exhibition of all applicants can be viewed in the Knight of Glin room until 3pm this Friday, September 11.
In a statement the Society said: "We would like to thank this year's sponsors Ecclesiastical Ireland, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage #nationalbuiltheritageservice and the IGS London Chapter for their additional support.
“We would also like to express our sadness at the recent passing of Frank MacDonald who served as a member of our judging panel."
