Offaly County Council has closed the public submission period for a proposed new Permeability Link Road at Collins Lane, Tullamore.

This project is part of a broader initiative to promote walking, cycling and public transport – aiming for these modes of transport to make up to 50% of all journeys by 2030.

As part of this investment programme it is proposed to construct a new link road at Collins Lane Tullamore

The link road will involve:

  • 180 metres of single carriageway.

  • 360 linear metres of footpaths and cycle paths.

  • Pedestrian crossings and uncontrolled crossings including drop kerbs and tactile paving.

  • Provision of road drainage within the scheme.

  • New public lighting. - Installation of road markings and road signage.

  • Boundary fencing, where appropriate.

  • Re-Location / diversion of existing utilities where necessary.

The development supports national and local policies to encourage sustainable travel, reduce car dependency and improve access across the town.

It's the council's policy to strategically prioritise the development of Tullamore to underpin its role as a designated Key Town and driver of economic development for the county.

The strategy includes compact, sustainable urban growth, especially through regeneration of underused lands for residential and mixed use developments to facilitate population growth.

A major focus is creating safer, more accessible routes for everyday travel – including for school children through the Green Schools Initiative.
