Lowry struggles at St. Jude Classic as fellow Irish man takes the lead

Offaly golfer Shane Lowry has made a slow start to the St. Jude Classic on the PGA Tour as fellow Irishman Seamus Power assumes a one-shot lead at five under par in Memphis.

Shane signed for a two over par round of 72 after a frustrating day on Thursday, which included four bogeys and a double bogey.

The Clara man started poorly with a bogey on just the 2nd hole, and while he made that shot back with a birdie on the 3rd green, he stumbled to his second bogey of the day on the 6th.

He birdied again on 8 as he continued with his stop-start round, and things went from bad to worse after the turn. Although he birdied the 11th, he recorded two bogeys and a double bogey on a disastrous stretch from the 13th to 15th holes.

He picked up a birdie at the 16th on the way back to the clubhouse where he signed for a disappointing round of 72. He'll be hoping for a more consistent display on Friday to make the weekend.
