Ally Duffy at the Home Countries and Celtic Cross Country Championships.
Ally Duffy, Tullamore Harriers, was in action in the Home Countries & Celtic Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill in London, on Saturday the 7th of February. The race was over 6000m which is a mile longer than young Ally has raced before. She stuck to her task though and despite very tough conditions with the course mucky throughout and some challenging hills, finished a creditable seventh in a time of 24:58. The team were clear winners on the day with a fantastic low score of 11 points.
Ally is now looking forward to the Leinster Indoors which take place next week in Athlone.
Rás na hÉireann
The annual Larry McGuill Rás na hÉireann took place in Dunleer on Sunday the 8th of February.
This long-standing event, hosted by Dunleer AC, attracts athletes of all ages for one of the last events of the cross-country season.
Ground conditions were very soft and heavy following recent orange-warning rainfall in the northeast. The course was hilly with large laps meaning sharp turns for the athletes.
First up for Tullamore were the U13 girls. Sophie Hynes led from the gun to finish in 2nd place. A great performance. Róisín Molloy and Niamh Murtagh had super runs in the tough hilly conditions finishing 16th and 34th respectively.
Next were the U13 boys, with both Aidan Herlihy and Daragh McLaughlin getting a great start and building into the race to finish 6th place and 8th place. Both boys were running out of their age category, a great result.
The final race was U15 boys. All 3 competitors were running out of their age category. James Hynes had a super run to finish in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on 2nd place with a sprint finish. Eoin Herlihy finished in 12th, with Matthew Berry in 15th place.
Well done to all competitors. A great day of racing.
