Grimsby avenged their loss at the hands of Wealdstone in last season’s FA Cup with a resounding 4-0 victory at Blundell Park.
The Mariners are in the hat for the third round of the FA Cup for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2022/23, as three goals inside the first 23 minutes made for smooth sailing against their non-league opponents.
The hosts could not convert early chances in last year’s tie, but they did not make the same error on this occasion as Jaze Kabia knocked in Charles Vernam’s cutback at close range to give Grimsby the lead seven minutes in.
Dreams of another Blundell Park upset were fading quickly for the visitors as goalkeeper Dante Astor-Baptiste’s clearance was hit straight to Kieran Green, who fired into an empty net from range to double Grimsby’s lead in the 15th minute.
It was three for the hosts in the 23rd minute, Vernam the provider again, this time for Jamie Walker, who poked in at close range.
The Mariners put a lid on the second-round tie early in the second half as Harvey Rodgers’ shot went in off Kabia to make it 4-0 in the 51st minute.
