Pete Wild expects Ryan Graydon to remain a Fleetwood player

Pete Wild is optimistic matchwinner Ryan Graydon will still be a Fleetwood player when the transfer window closes.

Graydon, who netted 13 times for the Cod Army last season, opened his account for this term after 37 minutes of the 1-0 win at 10-man Barrow.

Bluebirds skipper Niall Canavan was sent off after just 10 minutes and while Fleetwood could not extend their lead, ex-Barrow boss Wild enjoyed a winning return to Holker Street.

And he is hopeful Graydon will be available for selection after Monday’s transfer deadline.

“I am pretty confident,” Wild said when asked about speculation over Graydon’s future.

“If they were coming, they would have come by now. Unless something has been magicked that I am not aware of then he will he here on Monday.

“Him and Will (Davies) worked so well together and for him to get off the mark is great because he was desperate to do that.

On the victory Wild added: “I know Niall well and didn’t want him to get sent off but it was a red card.

“We came for a fight and a run-in-behind game but we got a control-the-ball game. It wasn’t what we planned for after 10 minutes.

“I said at half-time we had what we wanted and had to protect that because we knew Barrow were going to have a go.

“We looked slow and tired towards the end which was frustrating. But we defended our box well.”

On his return to Holker Street, Wild said: “It was all about the team today. I said before the game that eight points wasn’t a good month, nine points was an OK month and 11 points is a really good month. So, that is really pleasing.

“To come back to a club where I did so well at the majority of people were alright with me. ”

Barrow boss Andy Whing said: “The sending off ruined the game for us, especially so early.

“The gameplan went out of the window. It killed us.

“He (Graydon) was going away from goal a little bit. But it is a red card because he didn’t need to do it.

“Their goal was rubbish as well. It’s not as though they opened us up with 11 men. It was just scrappy and bounced to them.

“But I thought we dug in and gave it a real good go. We went to the last kick and had chances towards the end.

“I cannot fault the effort of the lads. They were outstanding and worked their socks off.

“If they can do that week in, week out with 11 men, we will pick up results. But it was a mountain to climb after 10 minutes.”
