Offaly Athletics Track and Field Championships

On Thursday evening, May 22nd, we witnessed the much-anticipated return of the Offaly Junior, Senior, and Master Track & Field Championships - and what a fantastic return it was!

Athletes from clubs across the county gathered at Tullamore Harriers Stadium on a glorious sunny evening. The event offered not only top-class competition, at a top- class venue, but also a sociable and friendly atmosphere, where camaraderie and rivalry blended beautifully on and off the track.

Adrian Curley, Chairman of Tullamore Harriers, took on the role of MC for the evening -and as always, did so brilliantly. He gave great encouragement to each athlete while controlling the busy schedule of the evening. A huge well done to the Offaly Athletics team for organising such a seamless event. Coordinating a track and field meet is no easy feat, but by all accounts, it ran smoothly.

The evening featured a mix of field and track events. For many of those competing in the track races, it was their first time on a track being more accustomed to road racing, and by all accounts they were pleasantly surprised by the excitement and challenge of this new setting. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, especially from first timers who embraced the new experience.

The championships kicked off with the 100m sprint and the Weight for Distance event, setting the tone for two and a half hours of electric atmosphere and athletic spirit. The stadium was alive with energy, and it was clear to all that the Offaly Track & Field Championships are back - and better than ever.

On behalf of the newly elected Chairman of Offaly Athletics, Neil Davidson, a heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone involved -from the athletes and officials to the club members who supported, competed, and volunteered. Your enthusiasm and dedication are the heartbeat of our athletics community.
