Falkirk clinch Scottish Premiership return with last-day win over Hamilton

Falkirk ended their 15-year exile from the Scottish Premiership with a 3-1 win over Hamilton.

The Bairns, who have stumbled towards the finish line in recent weeks, needed to match Livingston’s result to secure promotion and the Championship title.

They had a scare early on when Hamilton, whose relegation was confirmed a day earlier when their appeal against a 15-point deduction was dismissed, took a shock lead through Scott Robinson.

But Ethan Ross equalised with a free-kick before half-time and fired them ahead on the hour mark.

Calvin Miller then drilled a shot into the bottom corner to really get the party started 19 minutes from time.

As it turned out, Livingston fluffed their lines as Macaulay Tait’s own-goal gave Partick Thistle a 1-0 win and the final play-off spot ahead of Raith Rovers.

A Lewis Vaughan brace and further goals from Callum Fordyce, Dylan Easton and Aiden Marsh at least saw Rovers end on a high with a 5-1 win at Queen’s Park, for whom Seb Drozd replied.

Third-placed Ayr United beat second-bottom Airdrieonians 1-0 thanks to Ben Dempsey’s strike.

Owen Moffat’s third-minute goal and a penalty after seven minutes from Grant Gillespie gave Morton a 2-0 win over Dunfermline.
