Connaught Indoor Championships
On Sunday February 22nd at TUS Athlone, Rory and Katie Deverell competed as guests in the sprints and long jump. Rory was first up in the 200m sprint and produced a great performance and personal best in 25.82 seconds to finish 6th in the M35 age group. With only 20 minutes to recover, Rory was back into the blocks for the 60m sprint and once again, Rory delivered, running another personal best of 7.79 seconds to secure 3rd.
Katie competed in the senior women’s long jump. Using the competition for practice to work on a few technical changes from her last competition, Katie produced a very solid series of six jumps, especially impressive considering she had been ill for the previous two weeks, reducing her training capacity by 80%. Her best legal jump of the day measured 5.30m, which was enough to win the competition. Notably, she also recorded two longer jumps of 5.50m and 5.79m but unfortunately fouled marginally on both attempts. Katie’s performance will undoubtedly boost her confidence heading into her upcoming competitions.
Olive Mannion was in action too. Competing in the ladies O50 category she bagged a very impressive haul of 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.
: Bronze in the 60m in 11.50 seconds.
: Silver in the shot Put - 6.29 metres.
: Silver in the 200m in 39.36 seconds.
; Gold in the 400m - 1.34.22
: Gold in the 800m - 3.43.97
: Gold in WFD throwing 28lbs - 4.81metres.
