Two pedestrians killed in separate incidents on the roads

Gardai are investigating two separate incidents where pedestrians lost their lives on the country's roads.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the R162 Navan to Nobber road shortly before 10.30pm last night.

A pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was fatally injured when he was involved in a collision with a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Our Lady's Hospital Navan where a post mortem will be carried out. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.

The road at the scene of the crash is closed to facilitate an examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on Bridge Street, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon shortly before 8pm yesterday evening.

The collision on the N5 involved a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the car was not injured.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Castlerea Garda Station on 094 9621630.
