Former Tullamore DEW Centre will reopen as The Old Warehouse bar and restaurant next week
THE Old Warehouse, a bar and restaurant developed by golfer Shane Lowry and Dublin-based businessman Alan Clancy, will open its doors in Tullamore on Thursday, December 1.
It will be located in the former bonded warehouse on Bury Quay on the bank of the Grand Canal in the county town.
Extensive interior work has been taking place in recent weeks on the conversion of the building from its previous use as a Tullamore DEW whiskey visitor centre and restaurant.
Last year the leading publican, hotelier and nightclub operator Mr Clancy said he had formed a partnership with Open winner and Clara man Lowry to acquire the landmark building.
Planning permission for the conversion of the former spirits bonded warehouse to a gastropub, cafe and live music venue over several floors was granted earlier this year.
It is expected that up to 50 staff are being recruited for the Old Warehouse which the owners have described as a bar, cafe and restaurant.
Local sources indicated there will be a number of bars in the building and according to recruitment notices, it will be a “prestigious venue” and “class leader” in style, food and drink.
Chefs at all grades, food and beverage assistants, bar staff, kitchen porters and delivery and store assistants have been sought.
Alan Clancy, a native of Co Westmeath, owns hospitality businesses in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Belfast, Navan, Portlaoise and Kilkenny and when Shane Lowry won the British Open in 2019, a Clancy venue, 37 Dawson Street in Dublin, was the location of the first celebration party.
The directors of Emante Ltd, the company granted planning permission to convert the Bury Quay building, are Mr Clancy and Padraic O'Reilly.
Whiskey company William Grant, owners of Tullamore DEW, ran a visitor centre and restaurant in the building until 2020.
