Water outage hits many houses in Birr

Uisce Éireann says problem was caused by burst pipe

Burst pipe

A burst water pipe resulted in many houses in Birr being without water for several hours.

A water outage hit many houses in Birr over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon water was out for a few hours in the Crinkle and Syngefield areas due to a burst pipe near the reservoir, along with a blockage on the line. Repair crews arrived on site and resolved the issue.
The same afternoon the water outage extended to the Main Street and Oxmantown Mall areas.
At 7pm, some five hours after the first houses were affected, Uisce Éireann said the water was now being turned back on across the affected areas, and that if all went smoothly with no further leaks or issues, supply would be fully restored within an hour or two.
A number of houses reported a flow of water but at a reduced pressure.
