Man arrested in Offaly after #swerving away' to avoid Garda checkpoint
A man was arrested recently in Offaly after 'swerving away' to avoid a Garda checkpoint.
During an MIT (Mandatory Intoxicant Testing) checkpoint in Gallen, Ferbane, on Sunday October 12 at 8.30pm, a young male was stopped. A search of the car was carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
“When he caught sight of the checkpoint,” a Garda spokesperson told Offaly Live, “he swerved away to avoid the checkpoint, but we managed to catch up with him, where he was tested positive for cocaine.
"During the search a small quantity of cocaine was discovered. It was for the man's own use. He was arrested and the car was seized. He also had no insurance.”
