Roscrea Garda Station urgently needs additional resources according to local elected reps
A protest demonstration at the Main Street Garda Station in Roscrea is planned for tonight (Monday Nov 3) following a serious crime incident in the town centre on Sunday.
Gardaí are investigating the theft of a car at knifepoint on the Main Street in Roscrea close to the Garda Station which is understood to have happened at approximately 5pm.
Lack of manpower and resources at Roscrea Garda Station was raised directly in the Dáil with Taoiseach Micheál Martin recently by Tipperary Fianna Fáil TD, Ryan O'Meara, who told the Taosieach during leaders questions that "Roscrea Garda Station effectively does not open anymore".
Highlighting the situation in Roscrea's Garda Station, which opens intermittently at unpredictable times due to staffing issues, is the objective of the organisers of the protest.
"This will be a peaceful protest, but a powerful one", the protest organisers said, adding "Lets show that we won't stay silent when it comes to protesting our town and our families."
The protest is expected to start in Roscrea at 7pm.
The protest announcement comes against the backdrop of a social media post by Roscrea based Tipperary County Councillor, Shane Lee, who expressed the concerns of people in the town after news broke of the car-jacking incident in broad daylight on the town's Main Street.
