Students from Offaly and Tipperary among 240 who attended SVP Youth Day

Attending the SVP Mid-West Young SVP Youth Day in the Radisson Hotel Limerick were students from St Brendans Community School, Birr.

THE Mid-West Young SVP Youth Day took place recently in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Limerick recently.

On the day almost 240 students from across the four counties of Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Offaly attended the event.

SVP staff and volunteers were also present. At the event the schools involved in the Young SVP Programme showcased all the wonderful work they completed during the year in terms of fundraising for SVP, donation drives and other community-based projects.

Representatives from each school spoke passionately and eloquently about the various Direct Aid, Be-friending, Education and Awareness projects they were involved in. It was a day of fun activities, celebration of the work achieved by the students and most importantly to thank them for all their hard work in terms of raising vital funds for SVP. It was also an opportunity for learning where the students could learn more about the charity from the various speakers on the day.

Niamh Brennan, Young SVP Colleges Support Officer, spoke about the huge difference that 3rd level students make through their direct contact and outreach services that support those who are homeless. She also spoke about fundraising initiatives and social justice projects at 3rd level which caught the attention of everyone in the room.

Ian Deering, a Vincent’s Shop Manager in Tullamore, educated the students on the valuable role the Vincent’s shop play in the society and how they generate funds to help those in need.

Eimear Purcell, the SVP Drop In Centre Manager in Limerick City, provided a video message explaining about all the different services they provide to help those who are experiencing homelessness.

Lastly, Regional President Teresa Ryan gave a heart warming closing speech thanking the students and teachers for their involvement and efforts. Everyone agreed it was a super fun day with games, interactive activities, fabulous musical performances and a game of Boogie Bingo to top it all off to end the day.
