A fundraiser launched by the family of an Irish doctor, to raise money for specialist treatment in America, has hit over €100,000.
The GoFundMe was set up in recent weeks by the sisters of Dr Catríona Logan, a 36-year-old doctor from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, who has with two young children, after she was diagnosed in October with a terminal brain tumour.
"Triona has a Grade 4, non-resectable Astrocytoma with a typical prognosis of 12-18 months. She is currently undergoing radiation therapy. We are placing our hopes in oncovirus therapies being trialled currently in the United States and Canada," her sisters Maeve, Róisín and Sarah said on the GoFundMe page.
Dr Logan is a Paediatric Radiology Fellow at Our Ladies Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin. With her husband Leo, she has two young children; three-year-old Kitty and one-year-old Barra.
According to the fundraiser; "Triona is currently receiving excellent care here in Ireland, but treatment in Ireland is very limited for her type of cancer."
"We are currently onto specialists in America trying to give Triona the best chance possible, and trying to get her the most amount of time possible with her family and friends. Unfortunately this kind of treatment comes at a very large cost."
As of Thursday, December 21, the campaign has raised €144,748 of it's €200,000 goal, with two anonymous contributors each donating €5,000.
Any funds not put towards Catriona's treatment will be donated to the Irish Cancer Society.
"If you are in the position to donate we would hugely appreciate it, even a share would be amazingly helpful. We'll be doing fundraising events over the next while so please get involved if you can and share with your friends and family. Lots of love, the Logan Family."
