A Palestine solidarity demonstration was held in Roscrea last week which was organised by Breandán Ó'Conchúir, a local Sinn Féin activist and member of the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign.
Mr. Ó'Conchúir spoke about the importance of International solidarity in bringing an end to Israel’s attacks “on innocent civilians in Gaza”, he said.
“It is over a month since Isreal began its bombing campaign on Gaza in that month over 10,000 people have been killed and over a million people displaced, many of those displaced are already refugees in their own country having being forced from the homes by Israel in previous attacks”, he said.
“The Irish people's messages of solidarity is sadly an outlier in western politics as the EU, the UK and the US continue to enable Israel through the sale of arms and diplomatic support. This is why it is vital that Irish people continue to stand in solidarity and lobby Irish politicians to do what they can to put international pressure on Israel to respect international law and end its attacks on civilians andvits policy of illegal settlements in the West Bank”, he said.
Mike McDonnell from Nenagh Friends of Palestine said Ireland should expel the Israeli ambassador “as Ireland can not continue to have diplomatic relations with a country actively involved in ethnic cleansing and encouraged people to sign their petition”.
Another solidarity rally is planned for Roscrea on November 29.
